2024 Garden Walk Descriptions

The title of Cassina Garden Club’s annual tour of private gardens, Tabby & Tillandsia Garden Walk, was suggested by a member when it began in 2007.  Seeking a name easy to remember, if not to pronounce, the Club chose an alliteration which represented two important local icons. Tabby is the cement-like material which slaves used to create the walls and floors of their Hamilton Plantation cabins, made of sand, oyster shells, water, and lime. Tillandsia (təˈlæn.zi.ə) is a genus of about 650 evergreen, perennial plants native to the Southeastern United States, with Spanish moss being the most prevalent on St. Simons Island.

Christmas Bake Sale

Cassina Garden Club’s Annual Christmas Bake Sale is usually scheduled for the second Saturday of December from 9am to 2pm at the Historic Tabby Cabins and Gardens on Gascoigne Bluff, 1195 Atthur Moore Drive, St. Simons Island.

The “Best Bake Sale in the South” is a popular St. Simons Christmas tradition. The Bake Sale provides an offering of tasty and festive homemade cakes, pies, breads and cookies plus holiday treats and gifts such as toasted pecans, jellies and jams!

This happy holiday event is open to the public.

The Interpretive Cabin is open to the public from 9am to 2pm.
