Formed in 1928, Cassina is the oldest
garden club in Glynn County. Our founders’ objective
was to “promote love of gardening among amateurs, to
protect native shrubs, trees, flowers and birds, and to
encourage beauty.” These remain our guiding principles
to this day.
Today we are a garden club of more than 130 dedicated
members, some 90 of whom are active in the plans and
programs of the Cassina Garden Club. Since 1932, a
principle mission of Cassina has been the preservation
and beautification of the club’s two tabby slave cabins
and grounds. Listed on the National Register of
Historic Places in 1988, these cabins serve as the
Club’s meeting place. Since 1985, the "Christmas Tour of
Homes & Gardens" has been the club’s major fundraiser to
support this historic treasure. In 2007, the club
enhanced its ability to provide for the continued
historic preservation of its tabby slave cabins by
hosting its first annual "Tabby & Tillandsia" Garden
Walk in May. The next year, 2008, the club added a
very successful Garden Market
to its popular Garden Walk weekend. And in 2009, a
juried Photographic Competition and Exhibition,
"Flowers" was added to this grand weekend event.
